The skies between Tokyo and Honolulu are about to witness an increased frequency of a familiar sight. All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s premier airline, is sending another “FLYING HONU,” to serve the Tokyo-Honolulu route more frequently. This strategic move not only celebrates ANA’s 25 years of service to Hawaii but also promises to bring significant economic advantages to both regions.

I know many regard the ANA first-class product as one of the best in the world and will look forward to seeing how visitors sitting up front on these flights will be traveling.

The Economic Significance

The rerouting of the third Airbus A380, the “FLYING HONU,” is a testament to the recovering demand for flights to Hawaii. With a seating capacity of 520, this aircraft will significantly enhance the travel experience between Tokyo and Honolulu. Starting December 6, ANA will offer three flights per week with the “FLYING HONU” aircraft, ensuring more travelers can experience this unique journey.

As the Japanese travel market evolves post Covid shutdown I anticipate and increase in activity bookings as well. Things to do on Oahu are extensive and the Japanese traveler continues to be more adventurous.

This increase in flights is anticipated to invigorate Hawaii’s tourism sector, ushering in more visitors and, consequently, more revenue. For Japan, it signifies more opportunities for business, trade, and tourism, further cementing the economic ties between the two regions.

The “FLYING HONU” Fleet

The “FLYING HONU” is not merely an aircraft; it’s an emblem of the deep-rooted relationship between Japan and Hawaii. Its vibrant livery, inspired by the Hawaiian sea turtle or Honu, encapsulates the spirit of Hawaii’s natural beauty. The inaugural flight of the rerouted third “FLYING HONU” to Honolulu is scheduled for October 20, marking another chapter in this beautiful journey.

Celebrating the Milestones
To honor its 25-year legacy and the rerouting of the third “FLYING HONU,” ANA is launching a special sweepstakes, “Journey with FLYING HONU.” This contest offers participants a chance to delve into Japan through various travel themes, with grand prizes including roundtrip business-class tickets from Honolulu to Tokyo.

Moreover, the ANA ‘Aha Mele, a sequel to the ANA Honolulu Music Week, will take place from November 16 to 19, 2023. This event, a collaboration between ANA, environmentalists, and other contributors, will use music to underscore the significance of Hawaii’s natural resources.

Final Thoughts

With the rerouting of the third “FLYING HONU” flight to Honolulu, the bond between Japan and Hawaii is set to grow even stronger. Here’s to more shared skies, cultural exchanges, and economic opportunities in the years to come!
