Oahu is the third largest and most populated island in the Hawaiian Islands. Picking the best hotels on Oahu for families is no easy task but I have stayed at almost all of them. Families are looking for great onsite activities like pools or beach access as well as being conveniently located to restaurants or nearby activities.
Oahu is where I live and home to the state capital, Honolulu, as well as the world-famous Waikiki Beach. A popular tourist destination with various attractions that bring in families from all over the world. Catering to those families is a top priority.
Know that Oahu is home to a wide range of family and kid-friendly hotels, each offering something unique. Most of these resorts have suites and ample amenities for families who want to spend time together. Apart from kid-friendly amenities, they also offer some excellent adult offerings, allowing everyone to have time for themselves.
I promise this blog post won’t disappoint you in finding the perfect Oahu hotel for your family. Let’s take a look.
Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
If you’re looking for a memorable family vacation, there’s no better place than the Aulani Disney Resort & Spa. With activities and amenities for all ages, you’ll be able to create an endless supply of magical memories during your stay.
With accommodations that offer up to three bedrooms, your family will have plenty of space to spread out and enjoy all the resort offers. All rooms have beautiful views of the resort grounds and the Pacific Ocean. In addition to enjoying ocean and beach activities, families can participate in many fun on-site events – most of which are included with your stay.
Spend the day relaxing in the warm water at Ko Olina Lagoon, or spend some time with your other Disney pals that show up throughout the property. Enjoy live entertainment and a treasure hunt while you’re there.
The resort’s spa is perfect for parents to unwind while their kids play at Aunty’s Beach House.
Sheraton Waikiki
Staying at the Sheraton Waikiki means you are only minutes from the sand and warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. The Sheraton Waikiki is located near Diamond Head Crater (3-minute drive), Beachwalk, International Marketplace, and a wide range of boutique shops.
I stayed here recently and did a detailed review of this hotel as well as a Youtube tour of the property and room.
If you’re looking to host a family vacation or have some visitors over, the resort is perfect for that kind of setup. Or if you need a break, relax at the spa. The Edge Infinity pool has gorgeous ocean vistas, and the Helumoa Playground pool is fun for the whole family.
The resort area includes an active fountain, two whirlpools, and a waterslide. You may also dine at the pool with food and drink services available. In addition to the resort restaurants, guests can also dine at one of the eateries located close to the resort at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center.
It is also located right next to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, which is listed a bit further down this list.
The Laylow, Autograph Collection
This is the only hotel on the list that is not directly on the beach (or across the street like Hyatt Regency, Alohilani, and Waikiki Beach Marriott further down this list) but it is in the heart of Waikiki.
If you are looking for a retro mid-century design with cozy island vibes, The Laylow Autograph Collection is the perfect place to stay on your next trip to Waikiki.
One of the top boutique hotels on Oahu and one I have done a detailed review of with a Youtube tour as well.
This stylish hotel is just a six-minute walk from Waikiki Beach and three miles from Kapiolani Park, making it the perfect home base for all your adventures in Hawaii. Kuhio Ave. is packed with restaurants, a perfect place to return back to after a long day out doing activities.
The rooms at the hotel are airy and brightly colored, with balconies and tropical accents. They also have flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, sitting areas, and minifridges. The amenities include a casual restaurant and bar, a coffee bar, a lushly landscaped outdoor pool, and a fitness center. If you have a pet accompanying you, don’t worry; this is a pet-friendly resort.
Hilton Hawaiian Village
The Hilton Hawaiian Village provides an idyllic experience for families, with rooms overlooking Waikiki Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Stay at the all-beachfront boutique or in one of the spacious Rainbow Tower rooms. If you want something truly luxurious, try out a room in the Tapa Collection, you won’t be disappointed.
The lagoon out front is a perfect spot for young children to get into the water or to try out paddle boarding, a family favorite for tourists and locals. The Tapa or rooftop pool is a fantastic location for families to spend some time in the water and imagine they’re on a private tropical island.
The Super Pool includes 10,000 square feet of crystal clear water, and the Paradise Pool has a 5,000-square-foot activity pool for family enjoyment. Many question the need for pools when the ocean is steps away and initially I agreed with the “why” of it all. But when you see how much fun the kids are having, the comfort of your lounge chair, and the cocktail service coming around, you change teams quickly.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village also offers guests a starlight luau on the beach. If you’re looking for something more low-key, yoga classes are available, and families can even participate in lei-making workshops. Planning a trip to Oahu has never been more accessible or more affordable with the room packages offered by the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort And Spa
I have personally stayed and reviewed this property, read my detailed review and/or watch my video tour.
Interact with the island’s energy at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa. The resort is a few feet from the blue ocean of Waikiki Beach and is located across from the iconic Duke Kahanamoku Statue. This location is also near the International Marketplace and the famous Duke’s Waikiki across the street.
A popular hotel for those participating in the Hyatt rewards program, it’s free so if you are not a member I recommend signing up before your stay.
Spend the day relaxing and pampering at Na Ho’ola Spa. The massive interior garden is home to Pualeilani Shopping Center, where you may peruse through Urban Outfitters, Billabong, and other stores. Unwind with a sweet treat at Honolulu Cookie on the 11th floor. It’s near Hawaii Tradition Gold, where you may purchase one-of-a-kind jewelry from local artisans. Restaurants and cafés are among the businesses tucked away in between the shops.
Turtle Bay Resort
Turtle Bay Resort is a must-see for families on the North Shore, with both history and nature on offer. Vacation rentals in Hawaii are a great way to unwind and relax while being close to all your favorite attractions. Stay in an ocean villa or bungalow with panoramic views of the sea.
If you’re looking for a resort with various activities, look no further. Horseback riding, tennis, golf, and surfing will keep you entertained for days. About 15 minutes away is Waimea Valley which I recommend on a couple of 7-day itineraries.
At Turtle Bay Resort, dining is an experience. The flavors of the island are emphasized in a variety of restaurants. Seafood and locally sourced fruits and vegetables are just a few options. An authentic Hawaiian luau may be booked for families to enjoy together.
Royal Hawaiian Hotel
I have personally stayed at this hotel and did a detailed review of the room and property, also check out the Youtube video.
The historic Royal Hawaiian Hotel is located on the famed Waikiki Beach. Tucked away and surrounded by lush gardens you will be in the middle of Waikiki but feel miles away. Hotel guests can choose between rooms and suites overlooking the ocean or the resort’s lush tropical gardens.
As with all luxury hotels make sure you are booking them the correct way and use a travel agent that can get you additional VIP perks.
If you’re looking for something special, consider staying in Mailani Tower with its private lanai or choosing one of the elegant and luxurious suites in the historic wing. The tower will give you the best options for ocean and sunset views.
If you’re looking for a place to have breakfast, the Royal Hawaiian Bakery is perfect. In the evening, Mai Tai beachside bar offers stunning views and dinner. The Azure restaurant provides an array of local dishes and majestic ocean views during dinnertime.
This property is a part of the Marriott Bonvoy program as well as the Sheraton Waikiki next door. So you may feel like this hotel does not have the best pool for families. Turns out you can use the Sheraton Waikiki pools at no extra charge, even charge back to your room, nice.
Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club
Looking for a tropical getaway that the whole family can enjoy? Consider the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club. The property is near the Aulani and Four Season Resort in Ko’Olina, overlooking gorgeous greenery and sparkling blue lagoons. It offers one, two, and three-bedroom villas so you can find the perfect fit for your entire family.
And there’s plenty to do right here on the resort grounds – take a walk along the beach, relax in lagoon pools, or tee off at the championship golf course (kids play free after 3 pm).
The resort offers the perfect family getaway with four lagoons, nature trails, and luxurious amenities. Dining and shopping options are available at Ko Olina Station and Center. The spa offers a variety of treatments designed to relax and pamper your mind and body.
Also, if you want to experience the island’s extensive history or nightlife, downtown Honolulu is a short 17-mile drive away. I recommend not driving to and from Waikiki during normal work day driving hours.
Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikiki Beach
The Moana Surfrider, Waikiki’s first hotel, has been a luxury destination since 1901. It offers stunning waterfront views, and its stretch of sand is widely considered the best on Waikiki Beach.
I have stayed at this wonderful hotel and have a detailed review of the room and property. My Youtube video also walks you through the entire resort as well.
Families can take advantage of the supervised kids’ program while adults enjoy hula dancing, snorkeling, or lei-making classes. The hotel also boasts a spa where traditional Hawaiian lomilomi massages are offered.
On-site, a casual beach bar for drinks and small meals is joined by a full-service oceanfront restaurant that serves Hawaiian and mainland dishes. The Tower Wing rooms are the largest and most spacious, making them ideal for families.
Four Seasons Resort Oahu
I have personally stayed at this hotel and have a detailed written review along with a video tour on my Youtube channel.
The Four Seasons Ko Olina resort is a laid-back luxurious getaway for families. The island’s western shore provides spectacular views of the natural and wild environment. With the rooms and suites, ocean vistas are common.
Many people book luxury hotels direct and miss out on VIP perks like free breakfast and priority upgrades, don’t make that mistake and book your luxury hotels correctly.
Try the 17th-floor penthouse suite for an authentic luxury experience. The two-bedroom apartment has plenty of space for your family, and the individual terrace provides views of the ocean forever.
As you play through the golf course, take the waterfalls and relax at the Naupaka Spa & Wellness Center. Adults can unwind at this resort’s infinity pool when they want to get away from it all. There is also an amazing kids club for children to enjoy.
There are several casual dining options at the resort. During dinner, a Hawaiian fish house provides stunning sunset views. After the kids have gone to bed or if they are at the kids club, try Dr. Mai Tai’s innovative “swim-up” cocktails.
Alohilani Resort
I have personally stayed at this hotel and have a detailed written review along with a video tour on my Youtube channel.
The Alohilani Resort is situated near Waikiki beach and features rooms/suites with views of the Pacific Ocean. The resort offers discounts on vacation packages and for military members.
The Longboard Club, exclusive to guests, offers a private setting with daily specials curated to complement your stay. Select a room with club access for a more secluded ambiance and with customized daily specials to enhance your holiday. Personalized attention gives each guest a unique experience, and the club also provides fine cuisine with local and international flavors.
When you stay at the Alohilani Resort, you’ll be able to enjoy stunning views of the ocean no matter which room you choose. The kids will absolutely love the 2 story, salt water aquarium that dominates the lobby area.
Located in the heart of Waikiki and near the International Marketplace for a variety of dining options.
The Kahala Hotel & Resort
With its luxurious amenities and convenient location near downtown Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, the Kahala Hotel & Resort is the perfect place to relax and be pampered. Spend your days spoiled in the hotel’s wellness spa or taking a CHI fitness class on the manicured lawn.
I have personally stayed at this hotel and have a detailed review of the property and room along with a Youtube video. This hotel is also one of the top luxury hotels on Oahu. Make sure you book this luxury hotel with an agent that can get you VIP perks and priority on the upgrade list.
Children and adults alike will adore swimming with the dolphins in the 26,000-square-foot lagoon operated by Dolphin Quest. There is also a beach that appears private but is actually public. Due to the location of this hotel, the beach is only known to locals in the area making it private and serene.
Make reservations for Hoku’s or Plumeria Beach House early as they are popular with visitors and locals.
Hilton Grand Vacations Club Grand Waikikian Honolulu
One of the best family hotels on Oahu is the Hilton Grand Waikikian. The Pacific Ocean views are just outside the hotel’s lobby doors, and Waikiki beach lies just across the street.
One- to three-bedroom suites with kitchenettes and living rooms featuring sofabeds offer luxury and convenience, complete with free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Some upgraded suites also have captivating balconies overlooking the ocean. Families traveling to Oahu save a lot when they have the ability to cook in the room.
Factor in the cost of snacks and early breakfasts when comparing room costs.
Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk
The Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk Resort is only minutes from the beach. The hotel has various rooms to accommodate your party, including one- and two-bedroom suites with living areas, kitchens, and ocean views. Every day you’ll get a made-to-order breakfast as part of your stay.
Free breakfast for families is one of the best perks I can think of in addition to having a kitchen in the room.
In the evening, mingle with other guests at the pool or go for a leisurely walk on Waikiki Beach to take in all that Hawaii offers. There are plenty of restaurants, unique shops, and live music from locals everywhere you turn. Beach Walk is a great strip to be near and the whole family will enjoy the fun atmosphere.
The resort hotel even offers hula lessons and sunrise yoga classes. If you’re looking to relax after an eventful day, head to the outdoor Pakini Bar and Lounge on the Grand Lanai above the outdoor pool.
Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa
This large resort with two high-rise buildings located about a 9-minute walk from the Honolulu Zoo and 3 miles from Diamond Head State Monument. This Marriott property is right across from Waikiki beach and also has one of the best pool decks I have seen in all of Waikiki.
In between the adult pool and the family pool are colored fountains, a “grass” area with lawn games, and the Queensbreak restaurant, a great setup.
I have personally stayed at this hotel and wrote a detailed review of the room and property. I also have a video up on Youtube that walks you through the entire property.
All rooms have balconies, flat-screen TVs, minifridges, and coffeemakers. Some boast ocean views, while suites have additional sitting areas or living spaces. Ask for the front tower when booking for better views of Waikiki, I stayed in the back tower and wished I was up front.
This hotel features five restaurants, a beach grill, a steakhouse, a sushi bar, and plenty of event space. It also has two outdoor pools, a spa, and an exercise room if you want to relax.
