As of Dec, 4th 2024, Hawaiian Airlines will operate out of Harvey Milk Terminal 1 at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
This change marks a shift from the International Terminal and aims to enhance the travel experience by aligning Hawaiian Airlines’ operations with those of Alaska Airlines.
This terminal relocation allows Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines to co-locate operations, streamlining resources and creating a more cohesive experience for guests traveling with either carrier. For updated terminal maps and details, visit the official SFO website.
Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines Partner for Streamlined Airport Operations
This terminal shift at SFO is part of a broader initiative by Hawaiian Airlines to co-locate airport operations with Alaska Airlines at multiple airports. The collaboration is designed to optimize facilities, such as breakrooms and shared spaces, while maintaining independent operations for flights.
Harvey Milk Terminal 1 has been Alaska Airlines’ base for the past six months, making it an ideal location for this partnership. Hawaiian Airlines’ integration at this terminal is the first of several co-locations planned over the coming year, ensuring smoother operations and better guest experiences.
Obviously, spaces that can be shared will help reduce cost but what do you think from a traveler’s perspective?
Hawaiian in the international terminal always felt like a stopgap, even though they’ve been there for years – after all, they did not operate any international flights from SFO. In some ways it was convenient, but it makes sense to move the domestic carriers into the domestic terminals now that there is enough space for them there… and of course, it makes sense to colocate Alaska and Hawaiian now that they are sister carriers. That makes sense for passengers as well as the company itself. So I think this is a positive change.
Plus, Terminal 1 is unquestionably the nicest terminal at SFO since the remodel, and that’s saying something, since the other terminals are also quite nice now. (Now the never-ending construction has moved to T3.)
Good points. Now the wait is on for LAX which for Hawaiian customers flying in will be a huge upgrade since they will not have to make the 100 mile walk to baggage claim anymore.
