Many Marriott loyalists have been waiting for the Marriott Free Night Award Top Off to go live and it seems it has finally happened. I was able to access the feature on both desktop and via the mobile app

What is the Marriott Free Night Award Top Off?

In a nutshell, you can now add up to 15k points to any valid Free Night Award that you have in your Marriott Bonvoy account.

So for example – If you have a 35k Free Night Award you can now redeem it in combination with 15k points from your account for a room that will cost 50k points. Nice!

Will the Free Night Award Top Off Work for any certificate amount?

Yes, this will work with any Free Night Award certificate you may have, 35k, 40k, 50k, and 85k.

What will it look like when I redeem my certificate and add the Free Night Award Top Off?

As of right now I was able to test it out with my 35k certificate and points available in my account.

Select your location, dates, and make sure the use point/certificates button is selected. When you review your reservation details you will be at a screen similar to this.

This is what the same reservation looks like on a mobile device.

Marriott Free Night Award Top Off on Mobile

I picked the Sheraton Waikiki and have a 35k certificate available to use, the room was 50k points for a one night stay. As you can see it shows the award being used, 35k, and an additional 15k points which I had available in my account.

A perfect fit! Prior to the Free Night Award Top Off I would not have been able to book this hotel with my 35k point certificate.

Can you use the Free Night Award Top Off in conjunction with a SNA request?

Yes! Suite Night Awards, or SNA can already be used with Free Night Awards and adding the Top Off feature will not changes this.

If you want to get additional details you can go directly to the Marriott FAQ page and read on.

I do hope they take it further one day and allow us to add as money points as available but for now I think we should chalk it up as a small step forward in the right direction.

Aloha, and welcome. Your journey around the web has brought you here, and I’m grateful for the chance to share a bit about Hawaiʻi with you. I do my best to provide thoughtful insights on hotels, airlines, dining, and the ever-evolving travel scene in Hawaiʻi. My role? I’m the one steering the ship—quietly behind the scenes—making sure every piece of information you find here is worth your time. I grew up in Kaʻalaea on Oʻahu, surrounded by the beauty and complexity of Hawaiʻi, which shaped how I see the world and connect with it. As a native Hawaiian and someone who works in below-wing operations for Hawaiian Airlines, I’ve always been drawn to understanding the details—whether it’s about travel, culture, or the people who make it all happen. I travel extensively across the islands, seeking out what’s new, what’s changing, and what’s truly worth sharing. From the latest hotel openings to restaurant reviews and updates on travel trends, I aim to bring you accurate, first-hand insights you can trust. For a closer look, you can also find me on YouTube, where I dive deeper with visual reviews and updates. My hope is that this space helps you connect with Hawaiʻi in a meaningful way, whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth.
