The award-winning Ritz-Carlton Waikiki is known throughout the world and ranks as one of the most luxurious hotels on the island of Oahu. I recently stayed on the lowest floor possible and it felt like I was on top of the world.
Exceptional service and the quality you would expect from any Ritz-Carlton property make this a unique offering among the touristy options of Waikiki.
If you’re looking to do more while on your visit to Oahu, then you need to read my list of the best things to do on Oahu. Additionally, the Ritz-Carlton made my list of the best luxury hotels on Oahu.
Unique Features
The Ritz-Carlton Waikiki has an exclusive sushi restaurant on site, Sushi Sho, with only 2 seating periods per night. Make your reservation early, very early, and leave the children behind (13 and older only).
Check in for this hotel is located on the 8th floor and the valets will help you with the unique elevator code system to get you there. I don’t usually talk about elevators but I did like, from a safety and security standpoint, that you enter your floor number and then scan your key separately to enter the elevator. This means that if someone takes your key and doesn’t know your floor number, they wont have access.
Everyday at 2pm you can head down to the family pool located at the Diamond Head tower and enjoy some complimentary frozen delights. This ritual is named Low Tide and features a rotation of locally flavored ice creams and sorbets for children (and adults!) to enjoy. Keep an eye out for the cart and sugar-rushed kids.
Booking & Check In
I booked a 1 bedroom ocean view corner suite with cash + points directly with Marriott to make sure I got full credit on the current double elite night credit promotion. The Marriott Bonvoy program usually runs a couple of very nice promotions so be sure to track them when making reservations. There were ample rooms available in several categories including 2 bedroom suites, all with kitchens.
If you are paying direct be sure to get VIP perks and special amenities by booking with a Marriott Stars agency, I recommend Classic Travel. If you want to know more about the Marriott Stars program we have a complete guide for you.
I was also able to get a brunch reservation at the Artisan Loft for 10:30 am which meant I would be on the property well before the 4 pm check-in. As I sat down for brunch I requested early check-in via the mobile app and they messaged me back with good news just as we were finishing our meal, sometimes things just work out that way.
If it’s your first time at any Ritz-Carlton be sure to let them know, I told Kea this was my first time staying at The Ritz-Carlton Waikiki and he gave me a quick tour of the property, always a nice touch.

Room
Exiting the elevator onto the thick carpeted hallway I knew I was in for a treat. All of the rooms have ocean views and our corner unit was no exception.
This was no traditional hotel room but more like a residential studio or suite. A kitchen, washer dryer, dining space, and work space were all neatly presented. The large bedroom blended perfectly into the living room space with sliding louvered glass doors for privacy. Outlets and media connections on both end tables were positioned thoughtfully.
I received a nice tote bag, pineapple shaped candies, and some locally made chocolates as gifts with the room, always a nice touch.
There was a small dining room table which was perfect for take out meals and snacks. I did appreciate that the room had bottled water on both the counter and in the Sub-Zero refrigerator.
I got most of this review done on the L-shaped couch while watching movies on one of the two wall mounted flat screens. A glance left and I was looking out over Fort DeRussy beach park and the blue Pacific Ocean. A tilt of the head and I was in the perfect spot for a nap, allegedly.
Bathroom
The bathroom in this unit was spacious, well laid out, and a bath lovers dream. The bath tub was very deep and promised to soak away the worries of the world. Coupled with signature scent, Purple Water, Asprey bath products added the right touch to the luxury element.
The separate shower had excellent water pressure with an easy walk in design. The louvered blinds could be opened or closed depending on your mood.
The toilet was tucked at the end with state of the art “smart” features that took the drudgery out of the day to day and turned it into an adventure.
Pool
How do you get ocean views from a pool that is in the middle of Waikiki? You put them on the eight floor and design them with infinite edges.
There are two pools at The Ritz-Carlton Waikiki, one is for adults only and is located at the ewa tower, the other is family friendly with a short slide.
Chairs are first come first serve and cabanas are by reservation only.
The cabana had flat screen tvs, mini fridges and safes for you to use. Reserve for a full day 9-6 at $250. or half a day at $150, includes complimentary snacks and drinks. I spoke with a very helpful attendant, Richard, and he mentioned the snack selection changes and the amount of drinks is paired down for the half day rentals.
Like most resorts in Hawaii pool lounge chairs are always at a premium and the Ritz-Carlton Waikiki is no different. If you don’t want to wait book your cabana early and enjoy.
Spa
The Ritz-Carlton Spa is tucked away below the 8th floor gift shop, feel your stress fall away as you descend into a sanctuary below the pool decks.
Unfortunately I did not get a chance to use the spa but the attendant was very accommodating in giving me a private tour. Subtle hues, gentle music, and a calming decor almost put me to sleep standing up, I can only imagine getting a massage.
The locker room was well stocked with all that you need to re-enter the world above including an intimate sauna and steam room. Before you leave or before your appointment, take advantage of the relaxation room to help with the transition.
Fitness Center
While I didn’t actually use the fitness center it was well furnished with a variety of equipment, free weights, and boxing equipment. The views of Waikiki and overall cleanliness made for a great space to do some cardio and work off the vacation indulgences.
Ritz-Carlton Waikiki Parking
Im always impressed at how some of the most sought after destinations can still be “secluded” in an area overflowing with tourists.
Turning off of Kalakaua Ave. onto Kalaimoku St. you are presented with a large entrance for both hotel and residences. Pulling in you will make a wide left around the fountain with several valets ready to help. Once your luggage is whisked away you will be walked to the elevators leading up to the lobby.
Valet parking is $40 USD (plus tax) per night with no self-parking option available.
Ritz-Carlton Waikiki Restaurants
The Artisan Loft
Brunch is available at The Artisan Loft, 2nd Floor of Dean & Deluca, on Saturdays and Sundays only from 10am-2pm, Hours for the cafe are daily 7 a.m.-5 p.m. I made a reservation for brunch and I always recommend doing so if the option is available, you can call them directly here – (808) 729-9720
I had the Kunoa Beef Wagyu Loco Moco which was cut with your fork divine and the Truffle Vichyssoise Egg Osmosis, unique, wonderfully presented, and delicious.
La Vie
Located in the resort’s ‘Ewa Tower, La Vie is one of only a handful of French restaurants on Oahu. Limited seating with 3 and 5 course menu selection it features stunning ocean views and wine pairings for the most discerning guest.
I was seated on the edge overlooking the pool with a Waikiki beach sunset in the distance, 2 hours felt like 30 minutes. I did enjoy a couple of unique cocktails prior to the meal which felt almost criminal with the extensive wine list available, almost.
From the Fruits De Mer Plateau to the Frog Legs Meunière the presentation was on point and the flavors were delicate with a french flair.
The staff took the time to explain the ingredients, origin, and how it was prepared in a non-rushed engaging way. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience because of the ongoing discussion, views, and exceptional ingredient quality.
