What Is the Super Off-Peak Promotion from Marriott?

Raise your hand if you need a vacation from 2020! Last year left a lot of people dreaming of their next getaway. If you’re ready to get out of town, Marriott has a treat for you. They recently launched a new promotion discounting already great deals. Here’s what you need to know about their super off-peak promotion and how you can book to your advantage. 

What is Marriott’s super off-peak promotion? 

From January 11 to February 21, 2021, Marriott is discounting off-peak redemption rates and allowing members to save up to 40 percent on standard redemption pricing. This deal offers the lowest redemption rates of the year, starting at just 4,500 points per night. 

Over 7,500 hotels are participating in this promotion. While you must book between January 11 and February 21, the stay dates extend from January 11 until September 30, 2021. No registration is required to participate. 

What’s the difference between peak and off-peak pricing? 

According to a statement by Marriott, peak and off-peak dates are determined by an algorithm at the program level and will be adjusted monthly “to reflect market conditions.” This means that off-peak and peak rates are largely based on demand, and specific locations aren’t able to alter their own peak and off-peak dates.

How can I book this off-peak redemption promotion? 

All you have to do is book as you would a normal redemption reservation by searching for your hotel and stay dates on either Marriott.com or the Marriott Bonvoy app. Once you’ve selected ‘Use Points/Certs,’ all off-peak redemption rates are already loaded where and when available. So, your reservation will reflect the promotion discount during the promotion booking period. That’s it! You don’t need to use any special promotional code in order to get the discount. 

If you’re wondering how to get the best deal, there’s no system-wide calendar for Marriott. The best way to explore rates at a given property is to select the “Flexible Dates” option when booking. 

Where can I find super off-peak awards?

How to find the super off-peak promotion from Marriott

Keep in mind that off-peak and peak rates are generally based on demand. If you’re not seeing off-peak dates in the location you’re selecting, try booking a different destination or stay dates to see if the off-peak promotion is applicable. 

Below is an older (2019-2020) list of places to look for Marriott off-peak rates. This can serve as a great baseline of where it has historically been inexpensive to travel. 

  • Hawaii: October through mid-December and late September through October depending on the market
  • California wine country: Mid-November through April 
  • New York: January through February 
  • Orlando: Beginning in May with the greatest concentration in August and September 
  • Washington, D.C.: Late November through February 
  • Cape Town: May through August 
  • Dubai: May through September 
  • Europe: Primarily November through March 
  • Maldives: May through June and end of August through early October 
  • Bora Bora: January through March 
  • Bali: November through mid-December, mid-January through March
  • Phuket: May through June 
  • Koh Samui: October through mid-December and September through October 
  • Costa Rica: October and August through October 
  • Macau: March through June 

As you book travel in 2021, you’ll also want to keep COVID-19 regulations in mind. Each country on this list has independent policies about whether or not they’re admitting U.S. citizens during the global pandemic. Some destinations may admit U.S. citizens as long as testing and quarantining requirements are fulfilled. Be sure to look up this information before booking to maximize your stay. 

What if I already booked a reservation before this promotion was live? 

If you’ve met all the criteria and now see a lower point cost due to the hotel being at an off-peak redemption level, you can rebook/modify your reservation for a less point value prior to February 21, 2021. 

So, what’s the catch? 

No catch really! According to the Terms & Conditions, “Marriott Bonvoy members must book between January 11, 2021, and February 21, 2021, at participating properties with off-peak redemption rates available for stay dates through September 30, 2021.”

Unfortunately, the redemption stays at Homes & Villas by Marriott International are not eligible for off-peak redemption rates. All Marriott Bonvoy Terms and Conditions apply.
