So I have driven by Sweet E’s Cafe in Kapahulu several times and there was always a line along with a packed parking lot. So, passing by one morning as they opened I decided to swing in and see what the hype was all about.

A classic home style cafe with good eats and friendly service. If you are looking for some interesting breakfast items then take some time to check this place out. If you are visiting and staying in Waikiki this is about 5-10 minutes away and about 1 block away from the famous Leonards Malasadas.

What I Ordered At Sweet E’s Cafe

I always like to try something new and different whenever I go out to eat. In fact I almost always ask if the restaurant is known for something if nothing came up in my research. The “Extreme Mess” obviously moved to the top of the pile and it was indeed delicious.

This is a big breakfast with 3 eggs scrambled, loaded with spam, bacon, sausage, peppers, and probably about 5 other ingredients. A healthy, sort of, covering of cheddar cheese across the top pulled it all together.

Think sumo weight gain training and you get the picture.

I have been trying the eggs Benedict at restaurants more and more, unless of course they have a good loco moco like Goofys Cafe in Waikiki. This one came on top of a bed of corn beef hash. Potatoes were cooked well but not really seasoned and came off as bland or boring.

The corn beef hash with the Hollandaise sauce was amazing, what a combination. The hollandaise sauce alone was creamy and rich with flavors.

Service

Everyone was helpful and pleasant even with the restaurant haven just opened for the day. Quick to fill my glass of water and helpful with the menu selections.

Did I mentioned they offered to put my coffee in a to go cup? The little extra effort is noticeable and memorable.

Ambiance

A classic diner on the corner feel that is especially nice when you just want some hot coffee and a nice meal. Open seating both inside and on the patio means they could accommodate quite a crowd

Final Thoughts

I see so many on the quest for the perfect breakfast among locals and visitors alike. I have visited several popular breakfast places now and Hope to continue with my, um, research.

Now that I know the size of the inside and that the tables turn fairly quickly I wont hesitate to return here. Parking is clearly a challenge but just around the corner seemed to have available street parking.
