Sea view

The Reach, now a Curio Collection by Hilton, formerly a Waldorf-Astoria property has a beautiful sea view. Palm trees, soft white sand, and a private dock allow guests of The Reach to take advantage of the ocean at the property’s edge.

Through third-party contractors, The Reach offers watersport activities for those looking to hit the water. There are also small items available from the hotel to entertain guests in the sea.

Retreat For Families and Couples

While Duval Street is known for its party culture and is home to Fantasy Fest annually, that’s not exactly a romantic or family-friendly environment. However, Key West is more than Duval Street, just as New Orleans is more than Bourbon Street.

The Reach offers a family-friendly environment for kids or couples who come to Key West for the sunsets, Hemingway Home, or the most southern point in the continental US.

Outdoor activities like a jumbo outdoor chess set, pristine pool, and walk-out beach are just some of the ways The Reach offers a respite from the busy streets of Key West. For those who want to dine or drink on-site, Four Marlins is the hotel’s oceanfront restaurant.

Of note, Casa Marina, a Waldorf-Astoria hotel nearby shares assets with The Reach. Restaurants, bars, and amenities from either property are available to guests staying at both hotels.

King Studio Suite

The Reach upgraded my standard room to a King Studio suite with a sitting area opposite the bed. I rarely regard a larger room as a King Studio suite and this one was no different. While I appreciate the extra space, the King Studio suite was unfortunately not dramatically larger than a standard room and did not separate living from sleeping areas in a material fashion. The room was equipped with a small refrigerator and table for dining in the room.

The room featured a balcony with two chairs and a privacy wall. Sea views and those of the property were available, though not exactly oceanfront.

The bathroom was spacious with a walk-in shower not a shower over tub. At the time, shower amenities were from the prestigious fashion house, Salvatore Ferragamo, though they may have changed with the brand shift.

Hilton’s Global Service

I was offered my upgrade to a King Studio suite with a sea view as a result of my Hilton Honors Diamond status. We also enjoyed a full menu breakfast at Four Marlins in the morning though the property does not have an executive lounge for evening drinks or canapés. I also received bonus points and status for my stay, late checkout, and in my case, an early check-in.

For more information on the Hilton Honors loyalty program, see this post.

Value

Key West is expensive generally speaking, however, Key West is a unique place with a rich history. The finishes at The Reach were nicer than nearby Casa Marina due to its new construction. However, I struggle to find excellent value when standard rooms start at $300/nt. The price is fair for the environment, but it’s not a “steal.”

A slightly better value for points, The Reach starts at 70,000 points per night, achieving a valuation of 0.42¢/point, just above Suites and Lobbies Hilton Honors point value of 0.4¢/point. If staying five nights on points, however, the fifth night is free (something not offered with cash) which improves the per point value by 25% to 0.53¢/point.

Conclusion

The Reach is a welcome reprieve from the revelers in Key West for families and couples. The property is a little expensive for the amenities and product though appropriate for the area. The value becomes far better when spending points on a five-night stay.
