Lobby Experience

Due to some construction on Nanjing Road, arrival was a little bit difficult during my stay and a short walk was necessary to get to The EDITION’s lobby. Getting closer to the entrance, Le Labo’s familiar fragrance, that I had in great memory from other Edition stays, gave me a hint, that I was at the right place. After a quick temperature check at the entrance, a dark yet extremely impressive lobby opened up in front of me. Walking past the lobby bar, you will get to the check in area. Check in only took about a minute and I was immediately taken to my Bund View Suite.

Besides the Lobby Bar, on the first floor you will find a glass atrium with a lounge area and a pool table that is connecting the two buildings the hotel in located in. Shanghai Tavern, where I enjoyed both breakfast and dinner is also located here.

Suite

During this stay I booked a standard room with a breakfast and dinner package, but was generously upgraded to a Bund River View Suite. Offering amazing views on Shanghai’s famous skyline from all living, bed and bathroom, this suite, though only about 88sqm in size, is probably one of the most requested and photographed in all of Shanghai. The very clean and to some extent minimalistic design, that I love Edition for, together with the choice of light-colored wood veneers, fur and exceptional lighting design, create a comfortable and sophisticated environment.

Living Room

Entering the suite, you will walk right into the living room. With a separate dining area with a table for 4 and a lounge area, that sits about 6 people, LCD TV and a guest bathroom, the high ceiling and amazing view give it a very distinct and inviting feel.

Bedroom

The King Bedroom, which is separated from the living room with a privacy wall, is well sized. A work desk at the window with magnificent views and a separate reading lounge chair in the corner of the room complete the interior. Typical for EDITION hotels a comfy, furry blanket is set on the bed. Two doors to the bathroom are placed one both sides of the bed.

Bathroom

A reason to stay at Edition for me by itself are the bathroom amenities from Le Labo. The Suite bathroom, though simple in design, is set in white marble, but stands out by the placement of the bathtub in the rear corner. Taking a bubble bath and enjoying the fantastic view of the skyline is satisfying both at day and at nighttime.

Restaurants and Bars

The Shanghai EDITION is probably the most photographed hotel in Shanghai and maybe all over China in 2020, it’s the place any influencer wants to be. If you like to ‘see and to be seen” this is the perfect choice for a staycation. Due to its fame, make sure you have a reservation in advance for the restaurants and the roof top bar.

Open for afternoon tea and evening cocktails, the roof top bar offers the best views of Shanghai’s Skyline imaginable. Both at daytime, sunset and at night, it is impressive to be here.

I haven’t had a chance to dine at Hiya, which can be reached by walking down the famous staircase from the bar, but considering a one-week reservation list, I believe it is amazing. The atmosphere in here is upscale and even if you don’t plan to have a dinner here, just walk by.

The Shanghai Edition Hiya Bar

Breakfast was served in Shanghai Tavern on the first floor, with a buffet and additional a la carte options, which were included in the price. Also, I enjoyed dinner here twice.

Member Benefits

As I have mentioned earlier, the benefit I enjoyed as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite Member was the complimentary upgrade. Whatsoever, I called the hotel in advance and upgrades are not too easy to get due to the high occupancy.

Value

Look out for packages offered by the hotel. The regular room rates are usually comparable high for other hotels in the area starting at about 300$ and redemption rates start at 50000 points. I booked a package including both breakfast and dinner for two for a little over 200$ instead which is an amazing deal.
